American powertrain supplier BorgWarner has completed the acquisition of German automotive parts maker Gustav Wahler.

Gustav Wahler produces exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves and tubes, and engine thermostats for both on- and off-road applications.

In December 2013, the company announced that it will acquire all shares in Wahler. With this transaction, Wahler will join the BorgWarner Emissions Systems business.

All the 1,200 employees of Wahler in Germany, China, Brazil and the US were invited to join BorgWarner. The American powertrain maker will retain the Wahler name as a product brand in the aftermarket.

BorgWarner president and chief executive officer James Verrier said that the addition of Wahler complements the company's current EGR valve, cooler and tube technologies while expanding BorgWarner's product portfolio to include thermostats.

"With its global locations, the acquisition strengthens our product leadership position and enhances our ability to offer customers advanced technologies with localized manufacturing," Verrier added.

"As emissions regulations become more stringent and drivers require more fuel economy, demand for EGR technologies is expected to continue to grow. BorgWarner is positioned to deliver."
